Seems like a huge incision to make over a small stab wound from a knife but hey I'm no surgeon.
Not in the abdominal aorta or spleen, otherwise dude will die real quick
Lucky guy. They didn't miss his liver by much. Get that stuck and you're REALLY fucked up.

I used to be a medic. It's good the resisted the urge to pull the knife out. NEVER DO THAT. The knife is what's preventing a life threatening loss of blood. The all knives are serated in both directions. That was no butter knife. So doctors cut the knife out. Rather than pull it causing more tissue damage.
