When my elderly aunt died, one of my relatives decided it would be nice to put a big picture of her as a young woman next to the casket at the funeral.
Fortunately I got their early, and saw they'd mistakenly used a picture of my mother instead.
I'd asked my mom to wait in the lobby while I checked things out and was able to take the picture out and show it to her to confirm. I then put it in the trunk of my car.
I can only imagine what her reaction would have been if she'd walked into the funeral to see a picture of herself next to the casket.
My father was cremated.
When they delivered the ashes to our home and handed me the cardboard box, I noticed something about them.
My sister asked if she could hold them. She said she was curious about the weight.
I handed them to her.
"This box is hot!"
"Yes. Yes it is."
I can only hope they'd stored it somewhere very warm.
