The initial report indicated that a male suspect had entered a gas station and stolen multiple items. Adding to the tension, the suspect, later identified as 32-year-old Eduardo Villasenor from Commerce, had drawn a handgun from his backpack, holding it by his side as he fled the scene. The deputies acted promptly and located Villasenor walking in the 400 block of South Atlantic Boulevard. They ordered him to halt, but he refused to comply, leading to a deputy-involved shooting. Villasenor was struck by gunfire, dropped his handgun, and fell to the ground. Law enforcement officers immediately administered first aid to Villasenor while awaiting the arrival of Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics. He was subsequently transported to a local hospital and listed in stable condition. Notably, a loaded semi-automatic handgun was recovered at the scene, confirming that Villasenor was indeed armed during the incident.
