Deputies called for Whitten to surrender for about 26 minutes before he stepped outside. During negotiating attempts, Whitten stepped outside and extended his arms while holding a chrome object and pointed it at deputies, which turned out to be a shower head. Medics then tried to perform life-saving efforts on Whitten, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

I usually agree with cops, but you're going to a call where someone wants to die, and suicide by cop doesn't cross your mind? I guess you didn't have time to identify if it was a gun or not?
