Police broke into a man’s house for a wellness check, he shoots back at them hitting 3 people, and now they are charging him for attempted murder.
Geez, maybe we should have worked a little harder at the negotiation thing before we go full tactical assault on someone that we know is armed.
Dixon, IL June 12, 2024-Ogle County Sheriff reported that the mother called and said her son was threatening to kill himself and others, with her warning it could be a "suicide by cop" situation. Police arrived and for more than an hour placed 50+ calls to the suspect, Jonathon G. Gounaris, 32, without a response before entering the property. The suspect was armed with two handguns, a knife and pepper spray and was wearing what appeared to be body armor when he charged at police, Sheriff VanVickle said. The suspect, who was alone at the house, was shot and had undergone surgery at last report. The suspect appears to have been charged with battery in 2021. The three SWAT guys that were shot survived.
