Soppeng Police Chief AKBP Muh Yusuf Usman said that initially the tourists came with the intention of traveling. They brought food offerings with the intention of paying for a celebration. Then thunder was heard and lightning struck a large tree near the hut where tourists made offerings. "In the hut, the victims made offerings. However, lightning struck a tree, causing several large tree branches to collapse and fall on the hut occupied by the victims," he explained. "The total number of victims is 17. (The details) There are 9 people who died, and 8 people who suffered injuries and are being treated at Latemmamala Regional Hospital, Soppeng," Yusuf continued. Based on the information received, the nine people who died include Rosmini (37), Marnuni (34), Asse (40), Ikada (37), Wammenneng (60), Karyati (55), Agus (10), Rabiah (50), and Nuraeni.
