When you cliff dive or jump there should be nothing between you and the water. That's why Red Bull build platforms that jutt out past obstacles.
I spent my childhood, jumping off light House's and shipping cranes and no one ever got hurt. And we always checked the water for any junk that boats dump into the harbour.
