"On May 7, 2025, a tragic incident occurred at the University of Warsaw, where a 22-year-old third-year law student, identified as Mieszko R., carried out a brutal axe attack.
The assailant entered the university's Auditorium Maximum around 6:40 p.m. and fatally attacked a 53-year-old female porter, decapitating her. A 39-year-old security guard who attempted to intervene was seriously injured and hospitalized in critical condition. The attacker was apprehended shortly after the incident and is currently in custody.
He has been charged with murder, attempted murder, and desecration of a corpse.
The motive behind the attack remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing. In response to the tragedy, the University of Warsaw declared May 8 as a day of mourning and cancelled upcoming events, including the annual Juwenalia music festival."
