The armed man, 45-year-old Justin Chandler Smith, was carrying a handgun and a magazine-fed shotgun, which some callers mistook for an assault rifle. The previous evening, Smith had been contacted regarding a harassment and trespassing complaint and exhibited agitated and aggressive behavior. A deputy located Smith and attempted to speak with him. Smith was immediately belligerent toward the deputy. The deputy instructed Smith to place his shotgun on the ground by its strap. When the deputy approached, Smith reached for the handgun in his holster. The deputy drew his service weapon and commanded, "Don't you touch it!" Smith then drew the handgun and pointed it at the deputy, prompting an exchange of gunfire. Smith fell to the ground but continued shooting. After the exchange, the deputy began providing medical aid, including CPR. Additional deputies arrived and assisted until paramedics took over. Smith was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency medical services. A magazine-fed shotgun and a handgun were recovered. Evidence indicates Smith fired six rounds from his pistol, and the deputy returned fire with seven rounds. Multiple rounds fired by Smith struck and damaged the deputy's patrol vehicle. No deputies or uninvolved community members were injured.

Open carry is fine, but holstering a couple guns as well as a rifle walking down the road is not normal activity for anyone, and he knew that.
Butt unfortunately for him there is no re-set button, what's done is done.
What are Florida's gun laws?
In the state where I live it's totally legal to open carry, all day long.
