True story, a guy fired a red pen flare into an open driver's hatch of an AFV. The driver was asleep. He woke up, panicked at the smoke and red glare , and proceeded to pull the fire suppression system.
That instantly floods the engine, and engine bay with gallons of white foam. The engine can't be rebuilt or cleaned and the engine and fire suppression need to be replaced. Something that can't be done at unit level. It has to go back for a full refurbishment.
Now there's every swinging dick demanding to know why an entire AFV has been lost in training. And ya wanna know who fired the flare ???? You'll never guess who it was.
in Poland we say: "Kto mieczem wojuje, od miecza ginie" - "he who lives by the sword dies by the sword"
