Reports say he initially had trouble paying his bill, but updated information confirms he did settle the amount in cash before leaving. He was seen brandishing a gun in the restaurant, which prompted 911 calls. Watson fled in an SUV, leading officers on an 11 mile, high‑speed chase through three towns, reaching speeds of up to 85 mph. He rammed other vehicles and fired shots at police during the pursuit. When he crashed at Missouri and Atlantic Avenues, Watson stepped out armed, pointed his gun directly at officers and opened fire. Seven officers returned fire, striking him 45 times; he died at the scene. A grand jury later ruled the officers’ actions were fully justified, with no charges filed. Show more
