Backstory: Deputies attempting to carry out an eviction encountered a barricaded resident who allegedly prepared a homemade flame launcher to keep law enforcement from entering. According to Oklahoma County Sheriff Tommie Johnson III, the resident knew he was being evicted but refused to leave and barricaded himself inside the apartment. Deputies eventually forced entry and located the suspect waiting inside a bedroom. As deputies approached, the suspect allegedly used a makeshift flame device consisting of a spray can and lighter in an attempt to force them back. Investigators also discovered several improvised explosive devices inside the residence. The Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad and tactical team were called to the scene. Sheriff Johnson said investigators did not believe the improvised devices were capable of detonating because of how they were constructed, but said the apparent intent behind them remained concerning.
