Problem of a Non-phonetic language. You need to know the word and the spelling to be able read it. The letters are just a symbol for the word, not the word itself, its like decoration, its more or less just like Chinese or Japanese.
OTHERWISE explain me why the "ough" in ought, tough, thought, drought, dough, tought is so different.
Or how "ow" is spoken in blow, bowl, owl, row, brown, own ?
Maybe american-english should really be reformed and written how its spoken, like Russian, Greek or German.
