A Sequoyah County deputy was hospitalized Friday night after fatally shooting a man who attacked him with a knife in a Muldrow home, Sheriff Larry Lane reported. Lane said the deputy was with Muldrow police officers when he attempted to serve an arrest warrant on 30-year-old Phillip Trammell at a residence around 4:30 p.m. Friday. Lane said Trammell was accused of violating his sex offender registration requirements following a 2007 conviction in Texas for rape by instrumentation. It wasn’t clear which provision Trammell was accused of violating, but court records indicate that a warrant had been issued for his arrest in a 2017 forgery case. The deputy and officers entered the residence looking for Trammell, who jumped out of a pile of clothes while armed with a knife, pinned the deputy against a wall and stabbed him at least twice.
