I can't remember when it was, but it must have been over ten years back: in a small town in the Netherlands, there was a larger storage unit that was stacked to the roof with fireworks, the amount of it exeeded the legal limit.
The place caught on fire and the owners bailed. When the firefighters arrived, the news had been informed and while they approached the building, it detonated in blasts. The blast wave threw the news team off their feet while they were filming. Miraculously, not too many people were hurt.
I worked in retail in late 2019 and participated in the crazy, crazy sales of fireworks in that store. Each cash register's account stated that there had been about 20.000 Euros worth of fireworks sold on a day. The market I work in was one of the lesser frequented places and it made me wonder how much fireworks must have been stored nearby.
Is it really "unexpected" if a bunch of people are filming it?
Who lit the damn fuse? These things don't self detonate.
