The people in low income housing keep paying and paying and never gain equity... when they leave, they have nothing gained.
The politicians love these huge buildings because they gain far more federal subsidized tax money per square foot of land than they would any other way. The developers probably make huge profits on each project. The management companies are sitting on a gravy train until hell freezes over. Each building keeps more government bureaucracy in place to assess the government funding and keep track of qualified tenants.
Then we have HUD and specifications on filling a certain percentage of units with "people of color" in every community. Then, after racial demographics have been deliberately skewed... HUD uses their authority to re-draw voting district boundaries - over the authority of the local government.
Oh and lets not forget the taxes go up on everyone to cover the cost of all of this.
One more thing. Low income housing was tried during the Clinton era to improve the lives of those in poverty. Every where it was tried, it failed, doing little to help the poor and resulting in massively fucking over the good neighborhoods where the subsidized housing was built. Naturally, Obama and Biden took the cue and doubled down, building then times more of this than ever.

Omg this is SO true!!
There's an equal response at the prospect of a homeless shelter being built anywhere near their neighborhood.
