This is more true than you may realize. I'm not offended at being called a right-winger, but technically there is nothing extreme about the right-wing viewpoint, nor is it even really "right-wing."
Secure borders, no affirmative action, support police, prosecute criminals, men are men women are women, support the Constitution and Bill of Rights, especially the 1st and 2nd Amendments, no LGBT curriculum in schools,...these things are completely normal, and were accepted for centuries by everyone, regardless of party. (Excepting the Communist party, of course, but even America's Democrats mostly didn't support them)
Recently, some people came along and decided to fight us on all those points, and if you stood your ground and defended those issues, you suddenly became rightwing, where before there was really no wing. They are the extremists, not us.
How is fighting to secure our border and keep illegals out "rightwing" when it's in the Constitution? The constitution is "wingless". Same with free speech, gun rights, etc.
And how is it "rightwing" to believe competence not skin color should determine whether you get a job or not?
The radicals who came along split the battlefield and made normal issues "extremist" issues.
