Well, Putin offered Iran a military alliance. Iran declined. The cooperated on- and traded in weapons. Putin sleeps much better, not being allied to these idiots now. Unfortunately for him the trade route and pipeline through the Caspian Sea is done with. But as of now, the world needs Russian oil and gas, at increased prices. So, it's all good for now!
