I'm sure there are people who feel that way, but it's the very wealthy who are the most involved in trying to influence elections.

They can do so without changing their personal standard of living, and the outcome can have a huge impact on the growth of their wealth.

Look at Musk, the Koch brothers, Bezos, etc.

Part of it is that once they have more money than they can ever spend, they focus their attention on changing the world.
