The shooting took place on Dec. 11 in the 2100 block of West Hefner Road, near Hefner and Penn. in Oklahoma City. Bennie Edwards, 60, was shot and killed during a confrontation with officers. KOCO 5 reported on Thursday that one of the officers, Sgt. Clifford Holman, is charged with first-degree manslaughter in the case. Court documents stated that Holman fired three shots “unnecessarily” at Edwards as he was running away. Police released body camera videos taken during the incident, which shows shots being fired at Edwards. KOCO 5 will not show the moment Edwards died. Watch the bodycam videos in the video player above. “Sgt. Clifford Holman dropped his Taser unit, drew his service weapon and fired three shots unnecessarily at Mr. Edwards as he was running away, striking him in his upper middle back, causing his death,” the court documents stated. Police said Edwards was shot after ignoring commands to drop the knife and when non-lethal attempts to subdue him failed. Edwards’ family said he was known in the community as a homeless man suffering from schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

He was just some old homeless weirdo that had nothing to lose but there was more than enough law enforcement to have taken him down. The police really should start out with rubber bullets, THEN lethal force. Just sayin'

If he ran at a cop with a knife, he was a danger to the public had he gotten away. Perfectly legal shoot.
